Despite several visits to London in the past, I never ever explored the Thames for fun or frolic. I spent good time along its strands, loved walking over the bridges on Thames, but never thought of an adventure in the river.
Hailing from a city like Kolkata on the banks of the mighty Ganga river, we almost grew up with the river experience. Back home in Kolkata, I would take the refreshing ferry service often to cross over to the other side of the city to Howrah.
So each time in London I looked at Thames a little matter-of-factly though always enjoying the beautiful canvas of London skyline on either side of the river.
But this time round, London and Thames had in store for me an exhilarating powerboating experience. We all love speed, some scary moments and the once in a while adrenaline rush. The River Thames Speedboat Expreicne from Thames Rockets is the perfect activity for those like me seeking some safe adventure. A RIB boat (rigid-inflatable boat) experience should not be missed if you have time in London and some extra bucks.
So we whizzed over the Thames on the turbo-charged boat from Thames Rocket enjoying the iconic sights of London packed with thrills and spills of racing like the signature speedboat chase scenes in James Bond movies.
We started from the London Eye Pier and for the next 50 minutes it was a blast as you pass by Big Ben to Tower Bridge or the Millennium Bridge now known as Harry Potter Bridge, with some great commentary.
Once under the Tower Bridge, it’s time to tighten your grip. The 630 horsepower engines rev up Rocket style and whoop as you whoosh up to speeds of 30 knots (35mph!).
The boat twists and turns through the docklands with a bespoke medley of thrilling classics pumping through the board sound system.
"Combining the funniest guides and most experience skippers, Thames Rockets have held the #1 spot in our category on TripAdvisor for 4 years – and we have no intention of that ever changing!" says the Thames Rocket promotional content.
It is not much exaggeration as your guide can be stand-up comedian or actor spicing up the adrenaline rush with oodles of entertainment and funny one liners.
So your ultimate Thames experience can be a RIB boat ride that offers sights of over 20 London landmarks and yes, the adrenaline rush we all love once in a while.
