Author Amit Chaudhuri launches Saikat Majumdar’s new novel in Kolkata
Kolkata, July 2 (IBNS) Author Amit Chaudhuri launched Saikat Majumdar's second novel 'The Firebird' in Kolkata on Wednesday.

The event took place at popular lifestyle store Starmark's South City Mall  outlet.

The launch  was organized by the hosts along with the books publishers Hachette India.

Actress Sohini Sengupta, writer Anjum Katyal and lyricist and columnist Chandril Bhattacharya joined the author for a panel discussion and play reading session.

Amit Chaudhuri said, “I am particularly delighted and privileged to be here for the launch of Saikat’s book. I have always had great admiration and faith in him as a writer, having seen him through two decades.”

Sohini Sengupta said she could connect with the storyline having been born in a family associated with theatre.

“Theatre has turned our disadvantages into advantages. Today we can all stand up and take a stance because we are theatre artists,” she said while trying to relate with a particular character from the novel.

Chandril Bhattacharya said, “It is a simple story told eloquently.”

The National Award winning lyricist added, “The USP of this novel is its pretty unusual plot, I personally have enjoyed reading it.”

Saikat Majumdar had earlier found success with his debut novel, Silverfish. His new novel The Firebird is set amidst the backdrop of theatre in North Kolkata.

The book is priced at INR 499.
