It is a treasure trove of baked goodies…breads, cakes, pastries, cookies, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, doughnuts and a variety of baked savouries…the list is endless. Once you step inside this bakery and café, you are sure to step out with a basket full of cookies, breads, baklava, pastries and savouries.
This is Dunkel braun’s second outlet in the city of Kolkata, located at EC-15, Salt Lake, Sector-1, opposite City Centre-1.
Spread over 5000 sq.ft., Dunkel braun is indeed a unique café and bakery…and to add to its uniqueness is the fact that it is one of eastern India’s largest bakeries. Dunkel braun Salt Lake offers the first of its kind experience to its customers who may have the pleasure of witnessing live baking. Yes, it has a live oven—the Italian-make Salva’s Boutique Oven, which provides a smart customisable option to accommodate all the needs of an active bakery.
Smart interiors with scientifically laid out display counters offers everyone a panoramic view of all that one craves for in a bakery. It is a wonderland for baked items. As you enter, the aroma of fresh bakes fills up your senses! It is a sight to behold as one sees pizzas, breads, nachos and veg biryani emerging out of this oven…truly appetising! Yes…you read it right…baked veg biryani it is. Denkel braun has introduced baked veg biryani to be served to the café visitors, sealed in a clay pot.
Spread across two floors—ground plus mezzanine—it is an 84-seater café and bakery which has much to offer by way of visual and gustatory pleasure. The ground floor is entirely dedicated to retailing.
The smart display counters are stacked with cookies, cakes, pastries, breads and a large variety of savouries.
A stairway leads you to the café area where one can relax and relish the freshly prepared items from the small but well curated menu.
From the first floor one can see the live bakery in operation which in itself is an interesting activity to watch. This area boasts of an 8ft by 6ft television set where one can watch live sports and other programmes. This is an ideal venue to watch TV programmes with like-minded people, enjoy cups of coffee along with the bites of one’s choice.
Dunkel braun Salt Lake, has thoughtfully created a 12ft by 12ft working studio, where, if one wants, can hold meetings. It is a private space where customers too can be entertained while placing large orders, etc. It is designed to provide comfort to the visitors.
This is the second outlet of Dunkel braun in Kolkata, the first had opened around Sept 2021 at Sarat Bose Road. It received tremendous response and during Diwali most of their stocks got sold out!
The interiors have retained the colour scheme at their second outlet where shades of brown predominates, because Dunkel braun, which means dark brown in German, aptly describes the contents of this place…the bakery products which emerge fresh from the oven in various tones of browns.
Sandeep Gupta, the brain behind this brand says excitedly, “Dunkel braun, Salt Lake, is an experience to savour. We have a live oven inside our café and bakery and it is perhaps the first of its kind in the city. In addition to that, we have a huge TV set (8ft by 6ft) adorning a wall of the café and a unique studio space for exclusive meetings.”
The menu is exhaustive as are the products…burgers and sandwiches, rolls and wraps, pizzas, pastas, baked veg biryani, noodles, pastries, brioche, muffins, breads, cookies and so much more!
Dunkel braun, Salt Lake is open from 7.30am to 10.30 pm and offers a delectable selection of items for breakfast! But, I would prefer to visit during lunchtime and order their baked Dunkel Kathal Biryani and Smoky Mountain…both of which are unique treats to offer to oneself!
