Industrialist Anand Mahindra turned into an unlikely travel guide for his followers on Sunday, spotlighting a lesser-known hill destination for their next getaway.

Sharing a series of stunning images on X, Mahindra recommended Meghahatuburu, a scenic hill station in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, often referred to as the “Hill of Clouds” due to its high altitude.

“When most people plan a holiday in India, the usual suspects come up: Goa, Himachal, Rajasthan. Jharkhand rarely features in that conversation. I plead guilty of that too,” he wrote.

Mahindra said he came across striking photographs of Meghahatuburu shared by @IndiaAesthetica, which prompted him to explore more about the destination.

He highlighted the hill station’s natural beauty, noting that it offers a picturesque sunset point, forest waterfalls, and largely untouched landscapes.

However, he also pointed out that tourism infrastructure in the region remains minimal. “Bare-bones tourist infrastructure. Very few resorts, many guesthouses,” he wrote.

Expanding on Jharkhand’s tourism potential, Mahindra mentioned several other attractions in the state, including Netarhat known for its famous sunrises, Betla National Park, the sacred Baidyanath Dham, waterfalls around Ranchi, and the vast Saranda Forest.

“Jharkhand has much to offer the discerning traveller. It simply hasn’t shouted about it,” he added.

How to reach Meghahatuburu?

According to official tourism information, Meghahatuburu and its twin town, Kiriburu, are well-connected to key locations. The destination can be reached from Tatanagar by road or rail, with Barajamda serving as the nearest railway station, located about 24 km away.

The mining town of Barbil in Odisha’s Keonjhar district lies around 28 km from Meghahatuburu. Travellers can take the Jan Shatabdi Express from Howrah to Barbil, and then hire taxis or use SAIL buses to reach Kiriburu or Meghahatuburu.

Visitors can stay at local guesthouses, some of which offer breathtaking views of rolling hills—often described as a panorama of “700 mountains.” The sunset here is particularly popular, offering a serene and memorable experience amid nature.
