Air Canada has introduced a new non-stop route connecting Toronto with Rio de Janeiro, with the first flight landing in the Brazilian city on Friday morning.
The airline will run the service three times a week, with the schedule set to continue until March 2026.
A short event at Toronto Pearson International Airport marked the launch. Air Canada said the new route was added to meet increasing travel interest between Canada and Brazil.
“We are thrilled to introduce non-stop seasonal service between Toronto and Rio de Janeiro, connecting two vibrant cities and offering Canadians more opportunities to experience Brazil’s rich culture and stunning landscapes,” said Alexandre Lefevre, vice president of network planning at Air Canada. “
“With its unparalleled beauty and vibrant energy, Rio is already one of the main gateways for Canadian visitors to Brazil,” said Marcelo Freixo, president of Embratur.

Gustavo Tutuca, Rio de Janeiro’s secretary of tourism, said “Linking Toronto to Galeão strengthens our presence in the North American market, creates new opportunities for tourism, and increases the flow of visitors to all regions of the state. It means more development, more jobs, and greater visibility for our state.”
Luiz Strauss, executive president of Visit Rio, said an increase in Canadians visiting Rio this year demonstrates the route’s potential.
“Strengthening the air network creates real conditions to expand business opportunities, attract events and deepen relations with strategic markets,” he said.
Alexandre Monteiro, CEO of RIOgaleão Airport, called the route a key step in enhancing air connectivity. “This route brings Brazil even closer to the North American market and strengthens RIOgaleão’s role as a gateway for tourism and business,” he said.
“We are confident that this operation will generate significant economic benefits for both the city and the state.”
