Kolkata, May 9 (NITN): Pronam, a joint initiative of Kolkata Police and The Bengal – city-based NGO of prominent individuals - for the elderly citizens of Kolkata, celebrated Rabindra Jayanti at a solemn function today paying rich tributes to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
Director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Sundeep Bhutoria, Secretary General of The Bengal, Agnimitra Paul, Joint Convenor Pronam Project, Ranjan Haldar, Officer In-charge Ballygunge Police Station, and over fifty senior citizens and Pronam members were present.
Pronam members, all senior citizens, performed Rabindra Sangeet, recited poems and excerpts from Tagore’s works.
Pronam, which is a joint project of Kolkata Police and The Bengal has a membership base of 14,000 senior citizens in Kolkata, informed Sundeep Bhutoria, Secretary General of The Bengal.
Pronam has a dedicated 24-hour helpline hub for the senior citizens manned by specially trained Kolkata Police staff and executives for receiving emergency calls from senior citizens and take follow up action.
Pronam also tries to sensitise the society about the plight of our elderly and extend their support to the elderly round the year.
