Birbhum: Sitaramdas Omkarnath Chair at Biswa Bangla Biswavidyalay Omkarnath Chair

Birbhum's Biswa Bangla Biswavidyalay has announced the establishment of the Anantashree Sitaramdas Omkarnath National & International Chairs in the institute.

The Chairs have been instituted to promote advanced studies, research, and cultural engagement centred on the teachings and contributions of Anantashree Sitaramdas Omkarnath, an eminent spiritual master and a distinguished figure in India’s devotional and philosophical heritage.

The Sitaramdas Omkarnath Chair aims to:

- Promote interdisciplinary research in Indology, Social Science,  Indian Philosophy, Bhakti Traditions, Literature, Language  and Cultural Studies

- Encourage academic work reflecting the universal values propagated by Sri Sri Omkarnath Dev - Vedanta Studies, Philosophy, Social influences.

- Support publication, translation, and documentation of rare manuscripts, texts, and archival materials related to Omkarnath Tradition

- Facilitate national and international academic collaborations

- Organize seminars, workshops, lectures, and outreach activities for students and scholars
- MPhil , PHD and degrees will be offered by the University on Sitaramdas Omkarnath Studies.

Vice Chancellor Biswa Bangla University Prof. Dilip Kumar Maity, said, “The establishment of the Sitaramdas Omkarnath Chair reflects the Government’s commitment to preserving and promoting India’s spiritual, philosophical, and cultural heritage. The Chair will strengthen the academic landscape of West Bengal and provide scholars with a platform for rigorous research and knowledge dissemination. We are indebted to Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Smt. Mamata Banerjee for her inspiration. Our heartfelt thanks to Hon'ble  Sri Chandranath Banerjee , for his mentoring."

“This Chair will play a pivotal role in advancing scholarly engagement with the spiritual legacy of Sitaramdas Omkarnath. The University welcomes the initiative and looks forward to undertaking high-impact academic activities under the Chair," he said.

Kinkar Vitthal Ramanuja Maharaj , Acharya & President , Akhil Bharat Jaiguru Sampradaya, said: "Millions of devotees of Sri Sri Omkarnath Dev are happy in this announcement of Biswa Bangla Biswavidyalay. The Chair will serve as a beacon for promoting deeper understanding of Naam, Bhakti, Seva,  and Universal Harmony, the very principles that Sri Sri Thakur radiated throughout His divine life."

The Chair will be operational under the guidance of the University, in accordance with government norms.
