The University Women’s Association of Calcutta partnered Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City along with Orange Corp.
The program was envisioned by the Immediate Past District Governor Shyamashree Sen and her club members in 2004 to commemorate the International Women’s Day.
The genesis of the day can be traced back to then Russian capital Petrograd now known as St Petersburg when on March 8, when women protested on the streets of Moscow for the end of food shortages and Czarism.
