Bestselling author Dan Brown has chosen Prague as the backdrop for his new thriller The Secret of Secrets.

Known for weaving history with suspense, he sets his latest novel in the Czech capital, highlighting its Gothic architecture, hidden courtyards, and long-standing aura of mystery.

In the story, Robert Langdon, the main protagonist, makes his way through Prague, uncovering its history and hidden corners.

Brown uses the city’s Gothic landmarks, libraries, and secret passageways in his narrative, presenting Prague not just as a setting, but as a character in itself - with multiple layers to explore.

The novel’s fast-moving plot takes readers across locations such as the Charles Bridge, the Baroque Klementinum Library, Old Town’s winding alleys and tucked-away bars, placing the city at the center of an intriguing suspense.

For travellers, this connection between fiction and reality opens a new way to experience Prague. Inspired by the novel, guided tours now lead visitors through the locations featured in the book from centuries-old squares and ornate chapels to narrow alleyways that reveal the city’s unexplored side, Czech Tourism said.

Each spot highlights storytelling and history, creating a journey where literature connects with real-world experiences. Beyond just admiring monuments, readers and travellers are invited to see Prague as a city filled with cryptic symbols, forgotten legends, and sites where myth and history interwine.

“Dan Brown’s novel shines a spotlight on Prague in a way that blends storytelling with travel,” said Ms. Barbara Andelová, International Marketing Manager – New Markets, Czech Tourism.”

“It offers readers and visitors a chance to rediscover the city through mystery and imagination, adding a fresh dimension to how Prague can be experienced.”

According to Czech Tourism, apart from Prague, Czechia features other historic places mentioned in Brown’s novel as well.

The medieval town of Český Krumlov, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is known for its riverside castle, narrow lanes and fairytale-like streets that preserve a centuries-old atmosphere.

In Kutná Hora, also on the UNESCO list, visitors encounter the striking Gothic architecture of St. Barbara’s Church, one of the most famous religious buildings in Central Europe, alongside the Sedlec Ossuary, a chapel decorated with thousands of human bones, that gives the place a haunting and unforgettable character.

The book also explores many other lesser-known corners of Czechia, underlining the country’s rich history and offering travellers opportunities to engage with its cultural heritage in an authentic way.
