An Indian woman's seven-day trip to Sri Lanka has gone viral after she shared an Instagram post praising the island nation for its cleanliness, well-maintained roads, civic sense and the kindness of its people.

Ruth Dsouza Prabhu said her visit left her "highly impressed" by Sri Lanka's cleanliness, cultural pride and the way its citizens live in harmony despite the country's economic challenges.

One of the aspects that stood out to her was the cleanliness of the beaches.

According to Ruth, she did not come across a single piece of litter or plastic waste during her visit.

She was equally impressed by the country's road infrastructure.

Recalling that she travelled nearly 650–700 kilometres during the seven-day trip, Ruth said she did not encounter a single pothole.

"The roads! Across our 7 day trip we drove around 650-700 kms. And not one single pothole! Not one," she wrote on Instagram.

She also noted the absence of road rage during her journey, saying the driving experience was calm and orderly.

Reflecting on her overall experience, Ruth wrote: "Sri Lanka was an absolute revelation in cleanliness, kindness, cultural pride and living in harmony. Sure the country has been through hell and back many times over, but its people are the kindest around. Its economy struggles, yet it does not exempt anyone from being responsible citizens."

She said India, as Sri Lanka's larger neighbour, has much to learn from the island nation.

"And people take up their duties with no qualms. We can learn so much as a bigger neighbour next door. So, so much," she added.

Ruth also praised the warmth and hospitality of the Sri Lankan people, describing them as soft-spoken, helpful and deeply proud of their culture and heritage.

Her observations have sparked discussions on social media, with many users echoing her views on civic responsibility, cleanliness and public infrastructure, while others drew comparisons between the two neighbouring countries.
