West Bengal shuts all educational institutions over Coronavirus outbreak

Kolkata/NITN: West Bengal on Saturday ordered a closure of all government, government-aided and private educational institutions between Mar 16 and 31 amid the outbreak of the deadly Novel Coronavirus.

The internal examinations of the educational institutions will also remain suspended.

However, the board examinations will be held as per schedule.

The government has issued a statement which reads, "In view of the evolving situation on the spread of Novel Corona virus (COVID-19), the advisories issued by WHO, UN and Central Government and as a matter of abundant precaution to check its spread in the State of West Bengal, it has been decided that all Government, Government-aided, private educational institutions - Schools, Colleges, Universities, Madrasahs, SSK/MSK will remain closed from 16 March, 2020 to 31 March, 2020 in public interest."

In an interaction with a Bengali news channel, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "There is nothing to panic but we have taken a precautionary measure. We will review the situation on Mar 30 and take further step."

"The teachers can work from home," the Chief Minister added.

As of now, no positive Coronavirus case has been reported in West Bengal.

However across the country, 84 people including 10 cured have been infected. Two people from Karnataka and Delhi have died.
