Kolkata: Oudh 1590, an Awadhi restaurant in Kolkata, has introduced what it claims is the city’s first diabetic-friendly biryani on Wednesday.

The launch event was attended by actor and MLA Soham Chakraborty, who said, “Even when you're full, there's always room to have biryani.”

Also present were the co-founders & directors of Oudh, Shiladitya Chaudhury and Debaditya Chaudhury, along with the consultant and nutritionist Nidhi Prakash.

Dietician Nidhi Prakash said, “We decided to launch diabetic biryani because as the day passes, the number of diabetes cases increases alarmingly.

"The normal biryani is high in carbohydrates, so to balance the intake of it, we discovered such a dish after a lot of experiments.”

Director and co-founder Debaditya Chaudhury said, “Biryani is becoming a staple food in Bengali households day by day. But similarly, diabetes patients can also be seen in every other house.

"So to avoid the tension of health and enjoy the taste, we brought this diabetic-friendly biryani," he added.

The start of this culinary experience reflects a broader trend of catering to the growing health-conscious population, especially the diabetics.
