Qatar Airways, the national carrier of the State of Qatar, has launched its first-ever flight to the picturesque French city of Lyon.
The airline's new direct service, operated by a Boeing 787-8, now offers four weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, connecting travelers between Doha and Lyon.
This latest route expansion enhances Qatar Airways' presence in France, complementing its existing services to Paris and Nice, and further strengthens its extensive global network, which already covers more than 160 destinations worldwide.
The inaugural flight was celebrated with great enthusiasm, as passengers were treated to delightful experiences in both Business Class and Economy Class. Traditional French delicacies and an exclusive menu featuring premium French cuisine were served onboard to mark the special occasion.
Known for its rich heritage of architectural landmarks and renowned culinary experiences, Lyon is often hailed as the culinary capital of France, boasting numerous Michelin star certified restaurants.
The city also holds a special place in the hearts of film enthusiasts, as it is recognized as the birthplace of cinema. Moreover, being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lyon offers travelers an opportunity to immerse themselves in a blend of cultural and gastronomic delights.
Operating on a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, the new direct service to Lyon provides 22 luxurious Business Class seats and 232 comfortable Economy Class seats. Additionally, Lyon serves as an excellent gateway for travelers seeking to explore the nearby breathtaking Alpine mountainous range.
Expressing his excitement, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, highlighted the significance of the new route, underlining the longstanding strategic partnership between Qatar and France in various sectors, including diplomacy, trade, and tourism.
He extended a warm welcome to French and European passengers, inviting them to enjoy seamless and captivating journeys to the airline's vast array of destinations through its hub, Hamad International Airport.
Mr. Tanguy Bertolus, Chairman of the Management Board of Aéroports de Lyon, also shared his enthusiasm about this new international connection, recognizing VINCI Airports' expertise in developing new routes and fostering strong relationships with leading airlines.
He emphasized that the Doha-Lyon route will further boost the appeal of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, along with the Lyon metropolitan area, by offering more travel options to and from the Middle East and Asia, including Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand.
With Qatar Airways' successful expansion in France, Lyon now stands poised to welcome a new wave of visitors from around the world, eager to savor its cultural delights, gastronomic treasures, and breathtaking scenery.
