Air New Zealand has announced plans to host a live inflight concert, ‘SYNTHONY in the Sky’, on Dec 4 aboard Flight NZ1331 from Auckland to Sydney.
According to the airline, the event is being described as a one-off experience bringing the New Zealand-based SYNTHONY show, which combines electronic dance music with a classical orchestra, to 30,000 feet.
Tickets are currently on sale.
Passengers onboard will see a lineup headlined by electronic act Shapeshifter (DJ set), along with DJ Dick Johnson, SYNTHONY performers, and other unannounced guests.
Air New Zealand mentioned that each ticket will also include a Golden Circle pass to SYNTHONY’s performance at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Dec 5.
Air New Zealand Chief Commercial Officer Jeremy O'Brien said the airline is taking one of New Zealand's most celebrated live music success stories to new heights – literally.
"We're not just flying you across the Tasman. We're flying you straight into the heart of a one-of-a-kind music experience offering a completely unique onboard moment – an immersive, high-energy celebration at altitude,” O'Brien said.
"We love creating moments our customers will talk about long after they land, and SYNTHONY in the Sky is exactly that – an unforgettable, one-off experience."
The event is being developed with input from Air New Zealand pilot Captain David Elmsly, who co-founded SYNTHONY and has been with the airline for more than 20 years.
"Bringing SYNTHONY to life in the air is something I never imagined when we first started out – and now I get to see it take off in a whole new way. It's a surreal, full-circle moment that combines two of my passions, and I can't wait to see it come to life on board," said Captain Elmsly.
