Flights could face delays and cancellations

The strike could affect flights operating during the four-hour period as well as schedules around it, as delays can carry over when normal operations resume. Italy's civil aviation authority, ENAC, has published a list of guaranteed flights for September 30. It also confirms that protected time slots apply from 7am to 10am and 6pm to 9pm, when flights must be operated.

The impact is not limited to passengers travelling from the airports where local action has been announced. Since the main ENAV strike is nationwide, travellers flying into or out of Italy on Wednesday should check the status of their flight even if their airport is not among those specifically listed for local action.

ENAV has also warned that the strike may result in disruption, while airports such as Naples have advised passengers to check directly with their airline or travel provider.

What travellers should do

Passengers who have already received an update from their airline should follow the new instructions. If there has been no change to the booking, travellers should continue to check the Manage My Booking section on the airline's website or app, keep app notifications switched on and monitor their email for any last-minute updates. Unless the airline tells them otherwise, they should head to the airport as planned.

It is also worth allowing some extra time for the journey and checking the latest flight information before leaving for the airport. ENAC specifically advises passengers to contact their airline for detailed information about the operation of their individual flight.

The authority's list of guaranteed flights was updated on September 28, so travellers flying on September 30 should check for the latest information rather than relying on an earlier schedule.
