Singapore Airlines to organise special charity flight for some 300 beneficiaries
17 Apr 2015, 05:21 pm

Singapore, Apr 17 (NITN): Singapore Airlines (SIA) will be organising a special charity flight for some 300 beneficiaries of Community Chest on Airbus A380, as part of the Airline's SG50 activities.
A first for SIA, the three hour charity flight will be operated on May 29.
Beneficiaries will include children with special needs, adults with disabilities, as well as disadvantaged elderly and families, many of whom have never had the opportunity to take a flight.
In addition to enjoying an inflight meal service and the award-winning KrisWorld inflight entertainment system, beneficiaries will be treated to special performances by SIA’s world-famous cabin crew during the special flight.
Volunteers from SIA, comprising ground staff, cabin crew and pilots, will be on hand to assist the beneficiaries, so as to make their experience a delightful, memorable and comfortable one.
SIA’s partners helping to make the flight possible include Airbus, Changi Airport Group, SATS and Shell Aviation.
Singapore Airlines CEO, Goh Choon Phong, said: “We and our supporting partners are thrilled to be able to share with the beneficiaries the excitement of flying. We hope to provide them a unique and memorable experience that they will cherish forever. At the same time we are doing our part to give back to the community during Singapore’s 50th birthday year while raising awareness for the many worthwhile programmes that Community Chest supports."
Community Chest Managing Director, Ng Ling Ling, said: “Flying for the first time is a wonderful experience. It is extra special for those who have had to face many challenges in their lives. For these beneficiaries, it is not just a simple flight – it is the confidence that anything is possible. We are grateful to SIA for extending this opportunity to beneficiaries of Community Chest, and inspiring them to look beyond their challenges.”
The Community Chest of Singapore will be raising funds through this event. Members of the public can play a part by donating to Community Chest, with 100% of the donations going towards social service programmes for the underprivileged. Under the Care & Share Movement for SG50, led by Community Chest, the donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Government, doubling the benefit to the less fortunate.
The “Singapore Airlines Charity Flight” is one of a series of activities by SIA to celebrate the nation’s 50th Birthday. Others include the SIA Charity Run and Charity Gala Dinner held in 2014, which raised some $2.5 million for Community Chest. More celebratory activities will be announced soon. Overseas Singaporeans can also look forward to the many special packages rolled out by SIA to welcome them home to join in the festivities this year.
