Mentaid holds Annual Inclusive Sports Meet for 2019

Kolkata: Mentaid, the first registered parents’ organization for the intellectually disabled in West Bengal, recently held its Annual Inclusive Sports Meet for 2019 at the St. Thomas’ Girls’ School here, with a view to promote awareness about people with intellectual disabilities and their inclusion in society.

Mentaid is the first registered parents’ organization for the intellectually disabled in West Bengal, set up in 1986. It provides a host of services from early intervention, special education, therapies, vocational training, self-advocacy training, parent training, and publishes a newsletter, and networks with other organizations in West Bengal and also nationally, to ensure the rights of intellectually disabled children.

Mentaid has organized this Inclusive Sports Meet to promote awareness about people with intellectual disabilities and their inclusion in society.

This Sports Meet is an important opportunity to increase the visibility of people with disabilities. The Sports Meet was conducted with the representation of children and youngsters with disabilities, and also of students of regular schools.

Field and track events showcased the sporting spirit of the children who took part, as well as the inclusive way these children with and without disabilities can enjoy sports and learn from the experience.
