Thailand's Phuket on lockdown until April 30 to curb COVID-19 spread: Reports

Moscow/Sputnik/UNI: Phuket, Thailand’s biggest island and major tourist destination, was put on lockdown on Monday in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus, national media reported, citing the governor’s order.

The order bans people and vehicles from entering and leaving the island province, except for those transporting food, fuel and other essential goods, the Bangkok Post newspaper specified.

The measure, which will be in effect until April 30 or further notice, comes as the COVID-19 case count on the island reaches 62.

As of Monday, Thailand has confirmed 1,524 COVID-19 cases, including seven deaths.
