Spain-India
Madrid/UNI: Travelers arriving in Spain from India will be subject to a 10-day quarantine starting from May 1.
The measure is a response to a devastating wave of coronavirus sweeping across India recently, which, the Spanish government said, has led to countries such as France, Italy, Britain and Indonesia adopting restrictions to travelers arriving from India.
People who have to undergo the quarantine will only be allowed to leave their homes for food, medicines and other essentials, according to the Official State Gazette (BOE) on Wednesday.
They could shorten their quarantine period with a negative result from a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test taken on the seventh day of isolation.
This decision followed an announcement by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday that restrictions on people entering Spain from Brazil and South Africa have been extended till May 11.
On Monday, the Health Ministry confirmed that Spain has recorded a total of 3,496,134 coronavirus cases and 77,855 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Some 14,994,667 doses of vaccine have been administered across the country, with 4,020,945 people having received both shots.
