Presently this facility is available only at two underground stations- Park Street and Maidan.
"Kolkata Metro has already launched free Wifi service at Park Street and Maidan stations. We are expanding it. All 17 stations from Dumdum to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunj) will be Wifi enabled from June 15," Kolkata Metro Rail's PRO Indrani Banerjee told IBNS.
She also said that Kolkata Metro would be enhancing its daily services from Aug 1.
"After the commissioning of third platform at Tollyganj station, we are going to enhance our daily train services from 278 to 300, from August 1 this year. It would decrease the frequency of services during evening peak hours on weekdays from 8 minutes to six minutes," Indrani Banerjee added.
India's first underground metro railway is preparing to provide its commuters uninterrupted calling facility from the entire tunnel.
Metro PRO Indrani Banerjee said, "If everything goes normal, we are expecting to provide mobile connectivity inside the tunnel by Durga Puja this year."
Meanwhile, Kolkata Metro will be importing ultra-mordern racks from China by next year to woo its passengers.
"We are importing 13 air conditioned ultra-modern racks from Daliyan in China. Delivery of the racks will be starting from June in 2017," Banerjee further said.
