Washington D.C: US President Joe Biden signed a presidential proclamation which lifted the travel ban on southern African (SA) nations on Dec. 31, 2021.
On Nov. 29, the US had suspended the entry of certain noncitizens traveling as immigrants or nonimmigrants physically present in Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
"The restrictions gave us time to understand Omicron and we know our existing vaccines work against Omicron, esp boosted," tweeted White House assistant press secretary Kevin Munoz.
The restrictions were first imposed by the UK and European Union.
Currently, the consular sections in the eight southern African countries will resume routine nonimmigrant and immigrant visa services, the US Government said.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is upgrading its in-flight entertainment system, KrisWorld, with new display technology, audio features, personalisation tools and high-speed internet connectivity. The changes are intended to give passengers more control over their entertainment and how they use their time on board.
Air India will launch non-stop flights between Delhi and Osaka’s Kansai International Airport on 2 February 2027, becoming the only airline to operate on the route. The airline will run four flights a week between the Indian capital and Osaka, Japan’s second-largest metropolitan area, using Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
IndiGo will introduce daily non-stop flights to Udaipur from Noida International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport, starting October 25 and November 15, 2026 respectively.
