Australian cuisine wows top US food critics
New York, Apr 2 (NITN): Australian food and wine is making headlines in the US after twenty of America's top food and wine media were treated to a gourmet nine-course Australian lunch in New York last week.

Supported by Tourism Australia the ‘dining extravaganza’ was prepared by Australian chef and ‘Friend of Australia’ Martin Benn and his team from award-winning Sydney restaurant Sepia and held in the private dining room of three Michelin-starred restaurant Le Bernardin at the invitation of French-American chef Eric Ripert.

Ripert, who visited Sydney last year to film his show Avec Eric as part of Tourism Australia’s ‘Restaurant Australia’ campaign, was so impressed by his meal at Sepia that he immediately invited Martin and the team to New York to showcase the restaurant to local media.

Tourism Australia Managing Director John O’Sullivan said he was delighted the culinary credentials of Australia’s best chefs were gaining international recognition.

“Bringing Eric Ripert and Martin Benn together is just such a wonderful culinary collaboration. Sepia is one of Australia’s culinary national treasures,” he said.

Media who attended the event included: Bon Appetit, Conde Nast Traveler, Saveur, The Wall Street Journal, Esquire, Food & Wine, The New York Times, People, Sydney Morning Herald, Town & Country, Wine Spactator, as well as a number of freelance reporters.

Eric Ripert produced six episodes on Australia with the help of Virgin Australia and Wine Australia — in the Northern Territory, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania at 'Invite the World to Dinner' and NSW, the latter featuring Benn and Sepia, which goes to air on Yahoo! and the Cooking Channel in the US this weekend on 4 April
