This book is divided into several chapters and each chapter discusses a particular aspect of the growth and development of an individual.
It is a given fact that teachers and parents play the most crucial role during the developmental stages of a young child.
It is of foremost importance that parents and teachers understand the basic requirements of a child, be it their emotional needs or their material needs or their spiritual needs or their physical needs.
And this whole process of rearing a child also has a scientific and holistic approach to it.
Spreading proper awareness about this among the parents and teachers is a very important task indeed.
And what this book does is to discuss each such aspect of child development.
So while one chapter focuses on the moral development of a child, another chapter deals with the learning capabilities of a child and so on.
There is another wonderful chapter that mentions the concepts of progressive and child-centered education.
It has been a common practice in our country to judge each and every child on common parameters, to train them in the same way but every individual is different so it isn’t right to expect that the same teaching techniques will be equally effective for all.
This book discusses extremely important and serious matters like these in a very simple way.
Another nice feature of this book is the question bank at the end of each chapter. These are MCQ type questions from other entrance examinations.
Also this book uses various models and diagrams and lists to explain complicated theories and data regarding child development.
The National Curriculum Framework 2005 and RTE 2009 are also included in this book in full details and the examination candidates can refer to this as and when required.
So after reading this book the reader will get a very good idea about how to approach a new teaching post. A new parent will also find many tips about child growth and development.
For a teacher, it is mandatory not just to know the subject matter but also the student. An effective teacher is one who can ensure that each of his/her students have understood the lessons. And this book will surely show teachers the way to do this.
There is a chapter on school-based assessment of children that talk about topics like CCE, and then there is a chapter that tells how to deal with gender inequalities while imparting education.
These are all vitally complicated issues but this book makes it all look so simple once we read it through.
This book is definitely not just for professionals but for the general public as well because child development is a topic that every responsible adult should be bothered about.
